NSW: Passenger in train crash also survived Granville disaster
A passenger on the train involved in today's fatal crash in the Blue Mountains survived
the Granville train disaster 22 years ago.
CHRISTIAN DUPRESSOIR (PRON: DU-PRESS-WAH) was in the third carriage in both train disasters.
Six people have died in the crash.
Mr DUPRESSOIR has told ABC radio today's train was packed when it crashed into the
rear of the Indian Pacific near Glenbrook Station at the foot of the Blue Mountains.
He says initially he did not think of Granville but then recalled that as in the previous
disaster, passengers might need rescuing.
He describes todays crash like a strong breaking force whereas with Granville the train
was derailed and slowly came to a stop.
He was reading about an upcoming work conference when he felt a sudden jolt.
Because of his experience with Granville and because he had some first aid knowledge
he went to the front to help.
He says the front carriage was pretty horrific.
Mr DUPRESSOIR says those with mobile phones immediately called emergency services and
most people were calm but stunned.
He describes the impact of the crash as brutal.
